Frederick “Fred” William Sliker

Frederick “Fred” William Sliker, age 71 of Walnut Grove passed away Friday, November 28 at the Springfield Medical Center.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2nd at Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Walnut Grove Funeral Home with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday. The Walnut Grove Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Frederick “Fred” William Sliker was born August 21, 1937 in Johnson City, New York to Al and Louise (Landon) Sliker. He was baptized and confirmed in Johnson City, NY. He graduated from Vestal High School in Vestal, NY. He served in the military, and was united in marriage to Beverly Beavers. To this union two children were born, and the couple later divorced. On May 26, 2001, he married Shirley Foster Peterson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove. Fred worked at IBM in Rochester until beginning his career in law enforcement. He served the communities of Rochester, Willmar, and Brooklyn Park. While working in law enforcement, he had a tracking dog named “Sir” which helped other police departments. Fred received 25 letters of commendation during his law enforcement with the above cities. He also worked as a guard at the Prairie Correctional Facility in Appleton for four years. After his law enforcement career, Fred did over-the-road trucking for A & A Express. Fred was a Boy Scout Leader, a firearms instructor and marksmanship trainer, a lifetime member of the NRA, and belonged to the Red Rock Sportsman’s Club. Fred loved spending time and doing things with his wife, who has cared for him for the past seven years. He also loved hunting, fishing, target shooting, pistol and rifle shooting, collecting cast iron skillets, loved to cook and made a mean batch of Texas Chili. Fred loved spending time trimming trees with his best friend Tom, and training his dogs.

Fred is survived by his wife Shirley Peterson Sliker; ex-wife Beverly Peterson; children: Jeff Sliker and Andrea Sliker (Mike Kirchner); step-children: Daniel (fiancée Karen) Peterson and Robert (Kim) Peterson; grandchildren: Tyler, Sam, and Amelia Kirchner; step-grandchildren: Shawn and Samantha Lemburg; sister Carolyn (Don) Raper; mother- and father-in-law Darlow and Amelia Foster; sister-in-law Beverly (Duane) Weedman; nieces and nephews; his beloved dogs; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his dog “Sir.”
