Florence K. Nelson

Florence K. Nelson, age 87, of Redwood Falls, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2008 at the Wood Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls, MN.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls.
Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday. The Redwood Valley Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Florence Katherine Nelson was born February 6, 1921, in Paxton Township, Redwood County, Minnesota to Frank and Katherine (McPhee) Dornfeld. Florence was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls where she was a life-long member. Florence attended Redwood Falls Public School, and for several years after her schooling was a telephone operator in Redwood Falls. Florence was united in marriage to Joseph M. Nelson on March 16, 1947, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls. They made their home on the family farm southwest of Redwood Falls. They had one son, Stephen J. Nelson. Joe died in April 1972, after which Florence moved to Redwood Falls. She lived in her home there until being admitted to Wood Dale Nursing Home in October 2008.

Florence is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Alice Nelson, Redwood Falls; grandchildren: Katie and husband Mike Miller of Minneapolis, MN, Anne of Osseo, MN, and Joseph, student at the U of M, Minneapolis, MN. She is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Robert McGraw, Litchfield, MN; sisters-in-law: Ellen Nelson and Shirley Zimmer, both of Redwood Falls; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Joseph, Florence was preceded in death by her parents, special aunts Lydia and Amanda Dornfeld, and her sister Norma G. Hansen. Blessed be her memory.
